INOC (I) celebrates Sonia Gandhi’s birthday in NY

New York: Registering for bone marrow transplant, blood donation drive, cancer screening and organ donor programs marked the 66th birthday of Congress President Sonia Gandhi organized by the Indian National Overseas Congress, Tamil Nadu Chapter in Hicksville in Long Island Saturday.

Vazhapadi Rama Suganthan, a Congress leader from Tamil Nadu, joined as guest of honor with INOC leaders – Chairperson George Abraham, President Shudh Parkash Singh and Tamil Nadu Chapter President John Joseph in cutting a cake. The celebrations were postponed in India due to the five-day State morning after Nelson Mandela passed away in South Africa.

George Abraham, Chairperson of the INOC, said Sonia Gandhi revitalized the party after a slump and brought it back to power to unleash a slew of welfare schemes like food security bill and rural job guarantee. Shudh Parkash said NRIs prayed for the welfare of Mrs. Gandhi and portrayed her as Modern Mother India serving the children of the nation with love and affection.

Dr. Leno Thomas, an oncologist, spoke about cancer prevention and Saranya Radhakrishnan on the importance of South Asians getting involved in bone marrow registry.
